Join our HearTECH Talk Session with Dr. Laura Lassen, Senior Manager of the Cochlear Provider Network. Changes in candidacy criteria and patient profile have evolved to the point that a cochlear implant is typical clinical practice for adults with moderate to profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss who no longer benefit from traditional amplification. The goal of this presentation is to review how private practice audiologists can implement cochlear implants into their practice.

Join Dr. Wilder Roberts, an Assistant Professor in Audiology at the University of South Alabama and Cochlear Implant Director at USA Speech & Hearing Center and Dr. Ginger Grant, Professional Education Manager at Cochlear, for an exciting educational session on how independent audiologists can provide complete hearing care, including cochlear implants, to their patients.  This session will review the results of a multicenter retrospective study which shows speech perception outcomes similar to that reported in the literature.

A case presented by: Arun Joshi, Au.D., CCC-A, Cochlear Clinical Services Senior Manager

The practice of pediatric audiology is both an art and a science. In this grand rounds session, clinicians will share 5 unique cases highlighting aspects of clinical care of our youngest patients including professional collaboration, use of evidence-based practice guidelines, knowledge of genetic hearing loss and auditory challenges beyond reduced hearing sensitivity.

An inside look at the 2022 NYU Fellows Lab

As part of our commitment to provide best in class training and support to our professionals, we recently hosted a surgical course that featured a hands-on training lab. A special thanks to the talented group of neurotology fellows for joining us in New York and to the incredible NYU Langone Health faculty for their experience and partnership.

Here’s an inside look into the weekend:

What did we do?

This course provided a blend of hands-on learning experiences and discussion with the NYU faculty and Cochlear team. We reviewed topics such as complex case studies and abnormal anatomy, along with various surgical considerations. The lab provided attendees the opportunity for hands-on temporal bone drilling, practicing electrode insertions and assessing outcomes via tabletop fluoroscopy. Training was provided on our suite of implantable hearing solutions, including the Nucleus® System and the Osia® System.

What did we read?

The course was complimented with a review and discussion of current research. Several of these articles include:

Holder et al. Otology & Neurotology, Inc. 2021.

Morrel et al. American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. 2020.

These articles highlighted considerations for managing complex clinical cases as well as the benefits of perimodiolar electrode arrays. Overall, it was a packed agenda with thoughtful discussion and insights from our facilitators – Special thanks to Drs. McMenomy, Roland, Jethanamest, Shapiro, Freidmann, Waltzman and Kay-Rivest from NYU.

  • Characterize the potential beneficial effects of a well-placed precurved electrode array on upper stimulation levels, spectral resolution and speech recognition in quiet and noise
