The Cochlear™ Nucleus® Nexa® System features a smart implant system1* in which MAPs are securely written to both the connected sound processor and the implantꝉ when saved during a programming session in Custom Sound Pro 7.1. This means that a patient’s MAPs are always with them and can be easily accessed using Smart Sync. This removes the necessity to program the backup processor.

With the Nucleus Nexa System, the MAPs can be copied from the implant to any unprogrammed Nucleus Nexa 8 Sound Processor by placing the coil on the head. In approximately 20 seconds, Smart Sync will automatically copy and synchronize MAPs stored on the implant directly to the new sound processor, even converting MAPs for a different processor type.
Cochlear recommends that recipients bring primary and backup processors to every programming appointment. This allows for backup processors to be reset/updated with the most current firmware, making them ready for Smart Sync.
Remember: MAPs written to the implant must match the MAPs on the recipient’s processor.
